High Performance Garments - Used in Tokyo

19 August 2021

Haydale, (AIM: HAYD), the global advanced materials group, is pleased to announce that, following its announcement of positive prototype testing on 3rd March 2020, its range of advanced wearable technology - integrated into garments for elite athletes - was used in Tokyo by British athletes, including top medal winning athletes.

The challenges created by the uncertainty in the leadup to the delayed games further enhanced the relationship between the parties working alongside each other with the English Institute for Sport (EIS), Welsh Centre for Printing and Coating (WCPC) and Newbury Electronics, forming part of a dedicated supply chain team with Haydale and others to ensure the new technology was ready in time.

As mentioned previously, the garments generate heat using Haydale's printed functionalised graphene ink and incorporate electronic circuitry to produce temperature regulated panels. The plan is to use them at future international competitions, and subsequently to make them available commercially to other professional sports.

Dr Matt Parker, Director of Performance Innovation for EIS, states; "It is great to see the dedication and hard work of the whole team bring to reality garments that have been used by British athletes. This is something we will look to build on for future events."

Keith Broadbent, CEO at Haydale, commented; "I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to the EIS team, the WCPC team and the rest of the supply chain for their efforts in making this happen. I look forward to being able to provide a more comprehensive update on the performance of the garments that were used and developing the commercial potential that such an innovative garment technology may well realise."
